The baseline, stated first
"Alternative" is judged against one reference: an Adobe Photoshop subscription. Adobe's captured product page does not state a price, so this run publishes no figure for it. Every entry is judged on what it replaces of that subscription — generation, editing, commercial use — for free or less. Adobe Firefly appears in the run as the incumbent's own baseline entry, disclosed as such: it comes from the same vendor, not an independent challenger.

Scoring formula
Each dimension is normalised to 0-100, then combined:
Provisional order rule. Until the official-site verification pass completes, the published order applies this formula with every not-yet-verified field held at zero. Ties break by count of verified fields, then by order of appearance in the source records. Weighted index scores publish when the pass completes; until then the order is marked PROVISIONAL.
What we deliberately exclude
One well-known name is absent by rule: the run's premise is a free alternative to a Photoshop subscription, and a paid-only tool whose free trial the source record notes as currently paused fails that premise regardless of quality. Its absence is a scope rule, not a judgment. Likewise we do not score image quality or realism — no unified benchmark exists, and we refuse to guess.
Prices: only what the vendor page states
A price appears on this site only when the vendor's own page states it. Third-party price records are not used as evidence, so where a captured vendor page shows no plan price, the field is left out rather than estimated or filled from another source.
Data coverage
Verified fields in the 2026 run come from each tool's official page, checked 2026-10-14: OpenAI's ChatGPT plans page, Microsoft's Copilot homepage, Stability AI, Black Forest Labs, Recraft, Reve, Adobe Firefly and Adobe's Photoshop page. Each field a page does not state is removed, and a tool whose official page could not be checked (Canva, Ideogram, Nano Banana Pro in Gemini) is removed. Third-party comparison tables and category rankings are recorded as labels only. Untested dimensions are never estimated, and no Elo or leaderboard numbers are quoted without a verified current value.
